Who is the Giovanni Michelucci Library of Quarrata
Quarrata is an Italian municipality of 26,985 residents in the province of Pistoia, in Tuscany.
The municipality is known for its commitment to improving public services and residents' quality of life, and it recognized the importance of meeting the needs of an ever-evolving community particularly on the cultural front by modernizing its library facilities. The Challenge
The Municipality of Quarrata wanted to improve the experience of public library users through integrated, modern management of available resources. The project was part of a broader push to digitize citizen services, in line with the goals of local Public Administration under PNRR measure 1.2 — Cloud Enablement for Local Public Administrations (PNRR is Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan, funded under the EU's NextGenerationEU program).
The main objective was twofold: to provide a cloud-based system for managing and monitoring shared spaces in the library, and to ensure efficient, secure WiFi connectivity accessible to everyone. At the same time, the municipality wanted to simplify access to library resources (workstations, WiFi, periodicals, book lending) through a single, personal set of credentials.
The main challenge was integrating all of these services into a single ecosystem that library staff could manage without relying on external technical support. The previous model fragmented the user experience across multiple separate systems and burdened staff with repetitive management tasks.

The Solution
To meet these needs, the Municipality of Quarrata worked with CS Srl and VoiSmart to implement a tailored solution that integrated public workstation management with WiFi connectivity. CS Srl acted as the system integrator, bringing the KeySurf cloud platform for space management; VoiSmart contributed its inPiazza Guest WiFi platform, natively integrated with KeySurf.
The result is a unified ecosystem in which users access all library resources (WiFi, workstations, periodicals, book lending) using their personal library card as the sole access key.

Library staff manage the entire cycle: activation, monitoring, and closing sessions, from a single cloud panel, without having to coordinate separate technical vendors.
The Results
Integrating the KeySurf platform for shared workstation monitoring with the inPiazza WiFi system proved crucial in improving the accessibility and efficiency of the library's services.
The municipality recorded a smoother, more intuitive, and more satisfying overall library experience for residents, along with an increase in how often resources are used.
On the operational side, centralizing the system reduced management time and improved the quality of service delivered by library staff.
